The Chipmunks are Alvin, Simon and Theodore. Alvin is the lead singer and is impulsive, energetic, impatient, and rather fun. Alvin wears a red shirt with the letter "A" printed on it. Simon is the intelligent chipmunk and sports glasses. Theodore is the plump fun-loving member of the band. All three live with David Seville, their father figure and manager. Created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr., they started out in 1958 with the novelty songs Christmas, Don't be Late (The Chipmunks Song) and Witch Doctor. In 1959 The Chipmunks came out with Alvin's Harmonica, a single which won two Grammy awards and sold millions of copies. The Chipmunks became so popular that they were turned into a cartoon television program in 1961, called The Alvin Show. It ran from 1961 to 1962 on CBS. The show became popular in repeats and was relaunced as Alvin and the Chipmunks in 1983, and it ran until 1990 - a huge successs. This time, Alvin and the Chipmunks were joined by the Chipettes - Brittany, Eleanor, and Jeannette, female chipmunks.

The Chipmunks are now more popular than ever - with the success of the 3D CGI movie, a sequel has been made - and along with new television shows, albums, and videogames, Chipmunk fever is here to stay!

Chipmunks Audio Trivia: The Chipmunks singing style is achieved by taking Ross Bagdasarian's audio tracks and speeding it up to double speed (ie, playing it back twice as fast as it was recorded). Bagdasarian wasn't even going to use chipmunks originally for his novelty records - he was going to use butterflies or rabbits as the "singers", but his children Adam, Carol and Ross convinced him otherwise.
