Monchhichi Dolls:

Japan's The Sekiguchi Corporation, a doll manufacturer, launched the Monchhichi dolls in 1974. The dolls were invented by Koichi Sekiguchi. A Japaense TV Show was successful, and after dipping their toes into West Germany and Australia to test the doll market in 1975, Sekiguchi launched Monchhichis in the United States in 1979. A TV show completed the US launch of the Monchhichis, and a Monchhichi doll empire was born! There is a huge number of Monchhichi dolls available, wearing almost any outfit you can imagine - from a simple Boy Scout to a Panda costume! Although they're harder to find in North America these days, they are still being made and still going strong in Japan!
