| By 1990, the crowning glory of superstar status - the videogame - was to be bestowed upon the purple ones. The game was designed, coded, and completed. But it was not meant to be! Despite the fact that Interactive Designs had totally finished the project, the videogame never saw the light of day.
But why was California Raisins: The Grape Escape left to languish? Not even the programmers of the NES game know. Coder Robert Morgan says, "Why was the game never released? I honestly don’t know. As far as I know, the game was complete and ready to go. Some people have had conspiratorial theories that someone may not have wanted the game released – it’s fun to think that, but it’s probably more likely that it was a marketing or company politics thing." Mr. Morgan may know more, but he isn't telling. Could there be a grape big conspiracy behind all of this? We may never know, but the game is available on cartridge from time to time if you're lucky. So even though it was never officially released, Raisins fans still get to play it! Hooray! |
